ABOUT

Up Close and Personal

A Boy At The Cinema. Because I believe, no matter how old we are, the moment we enter a cinema, we instantly transform into excitable, fidgety kids, gaping in awe when Ethan Hunt performs those death-defying stunts in Mission Impossible, and crying like a newborn when Aman breathes his last in Kal Ho Na Ho. The essence of a good movie is that despite being only for a few hours, it always leaves something behind that stays with you for days to come.

Cinema, as an art form, is something so expressive that I instantly connect to it, however implausible it may be. Whether it is the euphoria of Kabir Khan defying all odds to coach the Indian women’s hockey team to victory in Chak De India!, or the magic that unfolded before my eyes when three young children decide to join the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I felt my heart being shattered into pieces as I witnessed the apathy of society that led Arthur Fleck to become the Crown Prince of Crime in Joker. I experienced the tiniest ray of hope that crept into a room filled with despair as I saw Andy Dufresne fight against all odds in The Shawshank Redemption. I witnessed the blurred line that exists between good and bad as I watched the unfathomable and shocking events take place in Se7en.

The sole purpose of starting this blog is to encourage people to appreciate cinema that transcends all genres, languages and societal judgments.  :)
